We need poetry!
It fosters emotional resilience. It can cross boundaries that little else can.
Poetry allows kids to paint sketches of their dreams, their hopes, their fears, their glee, and gloom; all that reside in their bubbling minds and are difficult to share otherwise. Poetry educates emotions. Poetry has the power to make the children feel and not just think.
It also helps children to learn the language in a fun and artful way. Poetry allows kids to learn and break grammar rules along the way and get a better feel of the language. Word choices in a poetry workshop prompt rich vocabulary discussions among young learners and help them explore multiple meanings and nuances. And most importantly, find their own voices and perhaps a community.

Wordplay is an excellent creative writing class. Though online now, its focus has been not only on writing skills but on building interpersonal relationships between participants as well. My eleven year old says it's fun because the mentor is very versatile and creative, never leading to a dull moment during classes. Wordplay has been of great help during the lockdown period, keeping young mind creatively engaged.
