Save The Species

This year, WODPLAY’s elementary writing program is “Save the Species”.

Climate change is resulting in situations that animals do not have enough time to learn how to adapt to their changing environments. In this program, we will reiterate the feeling of empathy for the endangered species through various creative writing experiences.

The program will culminated in an e-book with all the poems and stories written by the children in the writing voices which are uniquely their own.

The culmination of ‘Save the Species’

The insensitive abuse of wild animals has reached unmatched heights. Our Ankur group (grades 2 to 5) spent two months exploring the causes and the effects of the war we humans have knowingly and unknowingly wedged against the wilds. Knowing the causes made the young naïve minds genuinely concerned!!

WORDPLAY helped them to extend their concerned feelings for the endangered animals into narrative writing. The result is a collection of fascinating stories and letters by these children for other children of their age to raise awareness and empathy for these voiceless wild beings.

They believe in the power of storytelling to build empathy for these endangered animals.

Workshop Response

Sreeja is super excited and thrilled to be part of the " Save the Species" creative writing workshop. Apart from learning and imbibing so many concepts in English, I have seen her touched and genuinely concerned about the different endangered species of the world. The thoughtfully designed program has kindled her curiosity and imagination. The empathy she developed in her thought process is truly worth noticing! The icing on the cake is being a published co-author of the e-book.

I had two of my children enrolled in this workshop. In the first class, I saw twins struggle with the concept and that worried me a bit. Soumi was very understanding of the fact that they were the youngest and below the cut-off age for the workshop. However, things changed quickly. Soumi is a very dedicated teacher and a very patient human being. She has a way with kids and is somehow able to engage children online very effectively. My kids had fun in the "Endangered species' workshop. 🙂 They used to look forward to all the activities like poster making and interactions with their teacher and other kids. I suppose kids of different ages & interests have/ had different takeaway(s) from this workshop. But they shared one thing in common- they all had fun and enjoyed these sessions!
